Step back and chat
Juliet is 5m off the ground, looking down at Romeo.
There’s a Gargoyle directly beneath the window. This restricts Juliet’s view of Romeo. She won’t see him if he’s less than 1m from the wall.
However, there’s also a security camera attached to the wall just above her window. Its view creates a triangle, the vertex (top point) at the camera lens, 6m above the ground, leading down to its base starting 4m from the wall and ending 10m from the wall.
Romeo is 180cm tall.
How far from the wall can Romeo stand to hold a conversation with Juliet and avoid being seen by the camera?
(a) 3m (b) 2m (c) won’t work. He’ll need to climb the trestle.

Romeo is running at a speed of 15km/hour.
The Capulet patrol is running at a speed of 10km/hr. Mainly because their 1m long swords are getting in the way.
There’s an outer wall that is 3m tall. Romeo climbed this earlier to get into the grounds to chat with his young love. It is 250m away.
Romeo can scale the wall in about 30 seconds.

Workings | Distance | Time to cover |
---|---|---|
Divide both sides to get distance in 1 minute | 1000/6 = 166ish metres | 1 minute |
